Radon is a radioactive gas that is created during the breakdown of uranium in the soil. Certain parts of Canada have more uranium in the soil than others, resulting in radon being more prevalent in those areas. Radon is naturally all around is in minute amounts, but it can cause lung cancer when it builds up in a small space like a home.
Because radon is odorless and colorless, it’s nearly impossible to detect without a test.
The CBC has recently found that high levels of radon were found in many homes across the country. For more information on radon and what you can do about it, check out the article here.
